A community-centered approach is key to ensuring that CBEWS is sustainable and effective. It is important to empower communities with the right knowledge and tools to detect and act on early signs of extremism.
Training community members to recognize early warning signs, such as changes in attitudes, increased social isolation, or expressions of extremist beliefs, equips them to act proactively.
Ownership
Communities are more likely to actively participate when they feel they are the owners of their own security. CBEWS encourages this ownership by involving community members in decision-making processes.
Sustained Engagement
To prevent CBEWS from being a one-time intervention, ongoing engagement is essential. This can be done by establishing regular meetings, follow-up training, and maintaining communication channels between communities and local authorities.
